Capture The Color Contest
I was nominated by two fellow bloggers to participate in TravelSupermaket’s Capture the Color competition. Thank you to Susanne from Buntscheck blog and Ingrid form Cosy Travels of the Viking and his Kitten for the nominations.
In order to participate in the contest I must publish a blog post with a photo that captures the following 5 colours – Blue, Green, Yellow, White and Red.
Given the theme of this contest, I thought it only appropriate to start with an image from the colorful island of Burano in the Venetian lagoon.
The plaque on the exterior wall of this house reads as follows:
“Color is like Music
It uses a shorter way to
come to our senses to
Awake our Emotions”
Anna Maria Ambal
In the “blue” category I choose this image from Burano. What an absolutely glorious place to visit and as a photographer I was in heaven. The vibrant colors of the houses set against the brilliance of the sun was truly remarkable. You can see one of my earlier posts of Burano here.
The Don Valley Brickworks was a brick making plant that was established in 1889 and operated for nearly 100 years in Toronto. You can see the original post on Brickworks here and the post where the image below first appeared here. The green in this image was as a result of light painting during a long exposure.
For the color “yellow” I choose this image taken in Florence, Italy for its rich and warm tones of yellow. I call this an Italian Vignette and you can see the original post here.
The Western Wall is located in Jerusalem, Israel at one of Judaism’s holiest sites. White pieces of paper containing prayers, hopes and wishes from visitors from all around the world are placed in crevices in the wall where a divine presence lies. You can see the original post here.
I’ll conclude with an image not far from my home. The Cheltenham Badlands in Ontario is located approximately 45 minutes north of downtown Toronto. The beautiful sunrise of this fall morning brought out the beautiful reds not only in the trees but in the soft rock of the Badlands. You can see the original posts with explanations here and here.
I know I haven’t left much time as the contest closes on Aug 29th but I nominate the following photographers / bloggers / travels to participate in Capture the Color:
