Who’s Afraid of the Big, Bad Wolf?
Hmmm…not me.
I hope that everyone had a wonderful weekend. We had a long weekend in Ontario (as I know my American friends did too) and really enjoyed the much needed break and time with family. I did take a little bit of time to indulge my photography fix this weekend. I participated in a Photo outing with my Photography club where we headed out to the Muskoka Wildlife Centre to shoot some of the animals. What made the experience really incredible is that we were allowed entry inside the enclosures with some of the animals. Scary as that may sound it was an unbelievable experience. The only animal we weren’t allowed to get inside with was the cougar. I guess they didn’t want the photographers to get eaten…go figure. I’ll have some pictures of him, that I took from behind the fence, later this week.
The Muskoka Wildlife Centre is not a zoo but rather an interactive learning park. The centre is a refuge for injured wildlife or wildlife that were kept as “pets” and now can’t be released back into the wild. The staff at the centre are educators and wildlife experts who are responsible for the care and well being of the animals. They were truly incredible and accommodating (with both the animals and the photographers). If you’re ever in Ontario then you should put this on your must see list.
For this shoot I rented the Canon 70-200 f/2.8L IS II. I’m in love with this glass and I think I better start saving:)
So for today I want to introduce you to Montana and Akayla, two Grey Wolves that we were fortunate enough to photograph.
Wonderful pictures, Edith! This park makes me think of the Montebello park -> http://www.parc-omega.com/en/index.html
I want to go there one day! 😀

Beautiful images, Edith! Your mention of not being allowed in with the cougar is timely – we’ve recently had two reported sightings of a cougar on the small island I live on (Gabriola, in BC’s Gulf Islands). Very nervous-making…these are definitely wild animals, not to be approached – after all, they are lions!

Thanks Laurie. Yes while they look quite huggable they are dangerous.

LOVE these images, they are all great 🙂 I can’t believe I haven’t been there nor heard of it… there might be some truth to Torontonians being ignorant and trapped in their own world!!!! 😦
I have the first version of that glass and I love it… as heavy as it is, I almost carry it with me everywhere.
