Writing with Light

Jackson Square Jazz

Back to Jackson Square today and more street performers. What’s New Orleans without some jazz music to liven up the streets.

Click on the images to enlarge (they really do look better) or to Purchase a Print.

I wanted to try something a bit different with this shot in post processing so I created a stylized version using Lucis and Topaz Adjust.  Let me know which one you prefer.

  1. These are both really cool versions of a wonderful street scene, Edith. Typical New Orleans, can’t wait to get back there.

I like the traditional B&W conversion best, although both are quite nice.

  3. Edith, they are both great. I really like the second image the best I think. The subtle colors and detail pulled me in and made me want to explore the image. I can’t wait to try Topaz and Lucis.

  8. Oh goodness, they’re both terrific! I have to admit while I’m usually a standard B&W gal, I really like the more stylized version here. Somehow it fits that scene perfectly. Well done, Edith! 🙂

    • Thanks Erin. It’s funny because my intent was always to create this as a monochrome image. I decide to try something different to see how it would work and the stylized version just keeps drawing me in.

I’m going with the straight B&W version too. 🙂

  11. I went to NOLA about a year ago, and the live street (or in this case, square) music was one of my favorite parts of the visit! Great images. 🙂

  13. They are both very beautiful, it’s hard to choose. The first one is more like a photo and the second one looks like a painting. I like both of them. 🙂

  20. I am oldfashioned so I like the first best. Or maybe something in between. or the last if it was going to be a poster, an illustration or something like that. I would have liked to be there anyway!
