The View from Casa Loma

This wasn’t exactly what I had planned to post today. On Saturday evening I assisted a photographer friend of mine who was shooting a Bar Mitzvah. The event took place at Casa Loma which is a spectacular venue. I’ve never been to an evening affair there but I have visited a couple of times during the day.  I was taken aback by the beautiful view of the city from the terraces. The doors to the terrace were locked but I simply couldn’t let the opportunity pass me by. I asked one of the venue staff (in my sweetest voice of course) if she could unlock the doors just for a few minutes later in the evening so that I could photographer the view. At first I was told “no!” I was shocked…since I did ask in the nicest possible manner 🙂 As luck would have it about a half hour later with all the guests eating dinner they opened up access to the terrace for about 5 minutes. So with limited time I mounted my DSLR unto a tripod. Knowing I didn’t have time for too long an exposure I set the ISO to 800 and took 2 shots.

I present to you the view from Casa Loma.

  1. Wow!! What a beautiful shot Edith. I have always loved Casa Loma since I was a small child, and we took our boys there a few years back, but I have never been there at night. I’m glad you got the opportunity to capture this shot! It’s stunning!

    • Thanks so much Cindy. I’ve been there during the day and I’ve looked at the view but at night it really took me by surprise because it was so breath taking.

  4. A very beautiful view… especially with the trees in the foreground. Another lesson in photography, to get those remarkable pictures, one has to be brave.

I am surprised that they refused to open them for you Edith but I am sure glad that you were able to get the shot even if you had mere minutes. Great view.

    • Thanks Len. I think they originally refused because of the party and they didn’t want the kids to go out there. Once everyone was seated for dinner and out of the area I guess they figured it was safe.

  9. The trees create the effect of seeing through a lattice – as if this is a privileged view

    • Thanks so muc Andy. This used to be a private residence at the turn of last century so in a way this was a privileged view.

  12. This brought back some wonderful memories. I visited Casa Loma about 45 years ago when my high school bad was in a music competition in Toronto. I haven’t been back to Toronto since then but I loved the city then and would love to get back there again some day.
