Down Under the Manhattan Bridge
Sorry I hope you’re not getting tired of my images from DUMBO but I just loved shooting there. This was a beautiful spot to shoot the Manhattan bridge while also including Jane’s Carousel (on the right). This carousel was originally created in 1922 and was installed in a park in Youngstown, Ohio. Jane and David Walentas purchased the carousel at auction in 1984, at which time Jane began the painstaking restoration in her studio in DUMBO. Jane’s Carousel opened to the public in Brooklyn Bridge Park on September 16, 2011.
I was thrilled with the final image and then decided to see how it would look in B&W. I love both versions for different reasons but I’d love to hear from you. Which one do you prefer?
Click on the images to enlarge (they really do look better) or to Purchase a Print.
Fascinating… 🙂

I certainly enjoy seeing any image of NYC through your vision. Hard to choose which I prefer. If pushed, I would say the monochrome. It encourages the viewer to see the angles, contrasts and lines much more closely and not be distracted by coloration.

No matter how many times you’ve been to certain places, they’re still beautiful. Show as many shots of the bridge as you like!
I’m not unbiased in the color vs. b&w category. I very often like other folks’ b&w work, but can’t seem to let go of the color in mine. I think you b&w is lovely, but I really like how the light looks warm and welcoming in the color version.

Hi Edith – I gotta say both of your images are beautiful. The color shot is my favorite. The carousel seems to pop out better. Good luck with your photography.

There is no way I’m going to pick with this fabulous pair, Edith, I love ’em both! The color one reveals details and the b&w version is very dramatic. They are each strong, for their own reasons. Wonderful work, my friend!
