Wave II

“The waves broke and spread their waters swiftly over the shore. One after another they massed themselves and fell; the spray tossed itself back with the energy of their fall. The waves were steeped deep-blue save for a pattern of diamond-pointed light on their backs which rippled as the backs of great horses ripple with muscles as they move. The waves fell; withdrew and fell again, like the thud of a great beast stamping.”

The Surfer

An early morning shoot that yielded no significant sunrise but the early spring fog and the cool weather provided for a good backdrop. The surfers were out as were the joggers and little ole me with my tripod and gear getting ready to do some long exposures on the beach in Tel Aviv.

This surfer came out of the water and I was able to pivot and turn quickly to capture this shot.

Happy Holiday!

Not your traditional holiday image but I thought I’d spread a little light and warmth all around (and I’m sure that somewhere on the other side of the world someone is enjoying the beach 🙂 )

My friends…whether you’re celebrating Hannukah or Christmas or Kwanzaa or any other holiday I’d like to wish you all a Happy Holiday filled with family, friends and good-times.

Round You Go!

I’ve been to Israel numerous times and have driven past the old port in Tel Aviv on a number of occasions but I’d never spent any real time there until this last trip.

The port in Tel Aviv opened in 1936 and was the country’s largest and most important port until 1965 when it closed due to operations being moved to the newer port in Ashdod. The port sat derelict for many years and then in the early 2000’s the municipality of Tel Aviv decided to revitalize the area starting with a beautiful wide wooden deck that spans the port promenade along the sea. The old hangers have been covered to fresh food markets and the port is lined with restaurants, boutiques and nightclubs.

At one end of the deck is an old merry-go-round that was getting ready to close as I was setting up for my shot. Luckily it still had went for a few more rides, enough for me to get this shot.

The Lifeguard Station

I’m probably starting to sound like a broken record but….I’m back. It was another wonderful trip to Israel and while it was wonderful spending the week with my son I didn’t get out and shoot as much as I wanted.

I should probably clarify that…I didn’t come home with 1000 images to process I only came home with about 500 🙂

You probably noticed from my last trip in March that I shot a lot of beach images, specifically kite boarders. The kite boarders aren’t out as much in the summer months as it’s not that windy and the sea is much calmer. I did manage to spend a lot of time on the beach, Tel Aviv has some of the best in the world!
