The Candy Stand

When I was in Lerici, Italy my husband and I took a leisurely walk around the waterfront. On that beautiful, sunny day vendors  were lining the small harbour selling handmade crafts and souvenirs but it was the last vendor that really caught my attention.

This scene was as colourful as you see it. I took 3 bracketed exposures to ensure that I caught the full dynamic range of the scene and processed the image in Photomatix.

Oh que c’est bon! You know when they say you’re like a kid in a candy store? That was me when I came across this chocolate shop in St. Germain des Pres. And yes it smelled as good as it looked. The owner was very kind when I asked her (in broken French) if I could take pictures.

Super Hero Hall of Fame

This past summer while strolling through Westwood Village in L.A. my husband and I spotted a Soda Pop & Candy Store called Rocket Fizz. We walked in and I just about kicked myself for not having my tripod with me…sometimes you just need to give your back a break.  I was really like a kid in a candy store…OK…maybe not a kid but definitely in a candy store. It was retro, it had candy and comic books and soda pop and while my husband was admiring the vintage collection of comic books and all that soda I was trying to figure out the best angles to shoot and what settings I should be using to get the best shot. Enjoy and no you can’t eat the lollipops 🙂

A Hidden Gem

A you probably noticed in my last post, walking around Kensington Market can be a unique experience. Sometimes as a photographer I think I’m so focused on seeing and finding that next special shot that sometimes I miss what’s actually staring right at me.

I nearly missed Casa Acoreana, a little shop right on the corner of Augusta & Baldwin in the heart of Kensington Market. As we were rounding the corner I was heading to another building intently focused on some graffiti I had spotted. As we just about passed the store I glanced inside and knew I had to go in. I fell in love with this place. It’s a coffee, spice, nut, candy, dried fruit store. Yup! And if you would like them to make you a cup of coffee they will. There’s two small tables set up at the front of the store.

I asked the owner if he would mind if I set-up my tripod and take some pictures and he said…”go ahead.” So I did.
