The Neon Lights of Broadway

I spent a few days in New York a couple of weeks ago and it really doesn’t matter how often I’m there it’s probably one of my most favourite cities to photograph.

Truthfully I’ve been there so many times that I usually tend to stay away from Times Square unless I’m going to the theatre. Please don’t get me wrong, if you haven’t been there you must experience it but it’s always so jam-packed with people, that I tend avoid it.

Of course there are always exceptions. 🙂 This particular evening I was determined to do some long exposures. Long exposures in Times Square at night are actually quite tricky to do as the neon lights are extremely bright. After many frames and multiple settings I did manage to come away with some shots I was pleased with.

Carnegie Deli

Where do you go in Manhattan to feed two teenage boys? Well Carnegie Deli of course. Now this isn’t you’re run of the mill deli; it’s not for the faint of heart because all their sandwiches have at least a pound of meat in them. If you find yourself in NYC  head to Carnegie Deli and have the pastrami sandwich, you won’t be disappointed. Oh and if you have room get a slice of Strawberry cheesecake. Never mind…you won’t have room but get the cheesecake anyway.

I grabbed this shot while waiting in line to get in. After some adjustments in Photoshop I processed this with Topaz Simplify. Topaz Labs is having a 50% off promotion on Topaz Simplify until the end of February. You can check it out here.

I hope you all had a terrific weekend. Apologies for not being around much last week but its been a busy time and this weekend was taken up with getting ready for the exhibition. The opening night reception is this coming Thursday and I’m very excited and even a bit nervous. We hung all the pictures on Sunday and it was thrilling seeing everything up on a wall. I’ll share some images with you of the show at the end of the week.

Today’s image is an iconic building in Manhattan, the Flatiron Building which is located on 5th Ave. When it was completed in 1902 it was one of the tallest buildings in the city.
