Beach Day in Malaga

Our next stop on our Spain adventure was the beach town of Malaga, birthplace of Pablo Picasso and Antonio Banderas. Naturally the first stop was the beach.

Morning Has Broken

Morning has broken like the first morning
Blackbird has spoken like the first bird
Praise for the singing
Praise for the morning
Praise for them springing fresh from the world

Wave III

You can probably guess by now that I love being at the beach, I love the water and I love photographing the water especially doing long exposures. This is another of my Tel Aviv, Israel seascapes. I love capturing the waves in their different forms and the long exposure calms an otherwise raging sea.

Wave II

“The waves broke and spread their waters swiftly over the shore. One after another they massed themselves and fell; the spray tossed itself back with the energy of their fall. The waves were steeped deep-blue save for a pattern of diamond-pointed light on their backs which rippled as the backs of great horses ripple with muscles as they move. The waves fell; withdrew and fell again, like the thud of a great beast stamping.”

The Lifeguard Station

I’m probably starting to sound like a broken record but….I’m back. It was another wonderful trip to Israel and while it was wonderful spending the week with my son I didn’t get out and shoot as much as I wanted.

I should probably clarify that…I didn’t come home with 1000 images to process I only came home with about 500 🙂

You probably noticed from my last trip in March that I shot a lot of beach images, specifically kite boarders. The kite boarders aren’t out as much in the summer months as it’s not that windy and the sea is much calmer. I did manage to spend a lot of time on the beach, Tel Aviv has some of the best in the world!

Sunset Ride 2

I hope that all my fellow Canadians had an enjoyable Victoria Day long weekend. The weather was absolutely spectacular in Ontario this weekend and it certainly got me into the summer mindset. While I didn’t spend too much time indoors this weekend I did manage to process a few more images and as promised here’s the 2nd of my Sunset Ride series taken in Tel Aviv at Banana Beach.

Sunset Ride

My next few posts will be a series of images I made during a sunset shoot down on the beach. Lucky for me there were still some diehard kite boarders out riding the waves.

Breaking Waves

I wanted to convey the movement of the kiteboarder by doing an in-camera multiple exposure. After my usual workflow of subtle adjustments in Lightroom I used Topaz Texture FX to create an ethereal feel to the image. In photoshop I added a contrast layer to make the kiteboarder pop then use a layer mask to remove the added contrast from the rest of the image.

Kite Boarding on Banana Beach

Here’s another from my kite boarding series in Israel. I just loved looking at these kite boarders gliding to the water and sky with all those colourful kites overhead.

Wheels in Motions – Banana Beach, Tel Aviv

One of the features of the Canon 5D Mark 3 is the in camera multiple exposure function. I was having a lot of fun trying it out on the beach in Tel Aviv and when I saw this cyclist approaching…well…I couldn’t resist.

Wind Beneath My Wings

Birds flying high
You know how I feel
Sun in the sky
You know how I feel
Breeze driftin’ on by
You know how I feel
It’s a new dawn
It’s a new day
It’s a new life
For me
And I’m feeling good
I’m feeling good

Last Shot of the Day

I hope I haven’t been boring you with my sunset shots from Tel Aviv. It was such a beautiful evening, a little windy but perfect in all other ways.

This toddler came running up to the water, with his father close behind. As they played in the sand the mother came up and started photographing her son and husband. It was a perfect scene, so I, in turn photographed them.

Manarola Waves

One of my most favourite tools in my camera bag is my 10-stop ND filter and on my second day in Manarola it was overcast, the sea was churning and the waves crashing against the rocks. This was the perfect time to shoot some long exposures.

Monterosso

Monterosso or Monterosso al Mare is the last of the 5 villages in Cinque Terre that I had the pleasure to visit.

Unfortunately minutes after we arrived the skies opened up and a downpour ensued. Monterosso is the only village that has a sand beach in Cinque Terre and despite the weather there were plenty of beach goers.  Now I don’t usually wimp out because of the weather but it was late in the afternoon and the rain just wouldn’t let up so we decided to cut our visit short and head back to Manarola and have dinner. I did mange to get a few shots though 🙂

Manarola Blue Hour

Along the rugged coast of the Italian Riviera, just west of La Spezia, lies Cinque Terre or “The Five Villages.” The five villages that comprise Cinque Terre are Riomaggiore; Manarola; Corniglia; Vernazza and Monterosso.

You can’t drive in the villages so we parked our car in La Spezia for a few days and took the 15 minute train ride to Manarola, which was our base for a few days. To say that I was blown away by the beauty of this region would be an understatement. The five villages are connected by hiking trails and by the train. If you plan to visit I would highly recommend getting a train pass so that you can easily hop on or off when you need a break from hiking.

On our first evening in Manarola we had dinner at a seafood restaurant by the water. I knew I wanted to capture that iconic scene that I’ve seen so many times from other photographers so I brought my gear along. We had a lovely meal and my very dear and patient husband waited for me at our table while I went to “get my shot.” I returned a short time later and we had a lovely desert and finished of a great evening with an espresso.

On another note I posted a new image from Portofino to my Facebook page today. Head on over and have a look. While I do publicize my blog posts on FB, I am also uploading Facebook exclusive images so please consider giving the page a “Like”

Portofino Vista

Portofino is an Italian fishing village and resort town that’s located on the Italian Riviera.

It was recommended to us not to drive into Portofino as the traffic rules are strict for visitors and it was likely we would get a ticket if we drove into the village. We heeded that advice and drove an hour from Lerici to Rapallo and then ventured slightly further to Santa Margherita where we parked our car. Always on the lookout for a little adventure, exercise and of course photo ops, we decided to walk to Portofino which took us close to an hour. The walk itself, along a beautiful rugged coast was breath-taking. Upon arrival in Portofino we were rewarded with a much needed glass of wine, lunch followed by a cappuccino  and last but certainly not least this view.

Gone Swimming!

What’s better then riding your bike along a beach promenade? Locking it up and going for a swim, of course.

The wedding that I attended when I was in Israel was an afternoon wedding. The venue was on the beach with a spectacular panoramic view of the sea. As the wedding was winding down and guests were starting to leave I did what any photographer would do…go for a photo walk. Ok so I was in a cocktail dress and heels but I wasn’t going to let this opportunity pass me by. I kicked of my shoes, grabbed my camera and off I went and came upon this scene.
