Yes…we’re back at Schwartz’s Deli in Montreal today. Thought I would share some images shot & processed with my iPhone but before I do that I have a story I’d like to share with you.
My family and I were at Schwartz’s last Saturday. Well it seems that the next day, Sunday, Celine Dion and her husband were at Schwartz’s (as they’re big fans of this fine establishment) and picked up the tab for everyone in the restaurant. 😦 missed her by one day 😦
There are so many things to do and see in Montreal. Having grown up in this city I can appreciate its people; it’s neighbourhoods (some trendy, some not); its European flair and fashion forwardness. It’s a city rich in history and at times in political turmoil. I love it. It’s home, even if I haven’t lived there for years. So what does an ex-Montrealer do when they go back to their old hunting grounds? Go to Schwartz’s, of course, for the best smoked meat sandwich one will ever eat with fries, a dill pickle and a cherry coke to round off this gastronomical feast.

Now if you’re in Montreal on a Sunday morning (or any morning really) there’s a time-honoured tradition that you must have a bagel for breakfast…preferably with some lox and cream cheese. There are many great bagel places in Montreal, where they hand-roll and bake the bagels in a large wood fired stone oven. Our favourite (and home of the original Montreal Bagel) is Fairmount Bakery.
When it first opened in 1919 the bakery was located on a little lane just off of St. Lawrence Boulevard which was known back then as “The Main.” In 1949 the bakery moved to Fairmount Street (just one block north of St. Lawrence) where it still resides today. Mmmmm you just can’t beat a hot, fresh Montreal bagel (hmmm…I think I may hear from some New Yorkers after I post this 🙂 )
The image above is 3 bracketed exposures processed with Photomatix and then using Topaz Adjust 5 I applied the Vintage Grunge Preset 2 from the Film Collection.
