The Oculus

This is fast becoming a favourite destination when in New York. Now I just have to decide whether its because I love photographing this spectacular structure  or whether its because I can go shopping at Century 21 afterwards 🙂

After some initial tweaking in Lightroom I used Nik Silver Efex Pro for the black and white conversion and then Topaz Simplify to make the crowd a bit more “faceless.”

Say Cheese!

I’m channeling my inner Andy Warhol…or maybe not 🙂 This was a display of cheese making kits at Eataly in New York. Yes we ate there and yes it was delicious.

After processing and making adjustments in Lightroom I processed this image with Topaz Simplify. You can download a free trial and it’s on sale for $39.99 until the end of this month by using the coupon code maysimp, just click here.

Carnegie Deli

Where do you go in Manhattan to feed two teenage boys? Well Carnegie Deli of course. Now this isn’t you’re run of the mill deli; it’s not for the faint of heart because all their sandwiches have at least a pound of meat in them. If you find yourself in NYC  head to Carnegie Deli and have the pastrami sandwich, you won’t be disappointed. Oh and if you have room get a slice of Strawberry cheesecake. Never mind…you won’t have room but get the cheesecake anyway.

I grabbed this shot while waiting in line to get in. After some adjustments in Photoshop I processed this with Topaz Simplify. Topaz Labs is having a 50% off promotion on Topaz Simplify until the end of February. You can check it out here.

Hidden in Prospect Park

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone! Here’s another image that I took in Prospect Park in Brooklyn and decided to create a more artful version. As I did with “A Tree Grows There” I once again turned to Topaz Simplify to create the final image. I also wanted to let you know that Topaz Labs is running a promotion on Topaz Simplify. Until February 28th you can pick up this incredible plug-in for 50% the regular price. That means you’ll only be paying $19.99 which is an incredible price for this powerful tool. If you want to try it out first you can do that as well by downloading a trial here.

A Tree Grows There

Happy Monday! The opening night of the group Landscape Photography Show which I was a part of was this past Thursday and I’m happy to report that it was an excellent evening. Actually I had a blast. I had family and good friends come out to show their support and encouragement as well as many other attendees.  This was a first for me and it was a terrific learning experience. The exhibit will continue until March 15th. It’s very exciting to see your work printed, matted, framed and hanging for all to see. Thank you to all who attended on what was a verrry cold Toronto night.

On to today’s image. This was taken on a walk through Prospect Park in Brooklyn. I want to give this more of an artistic look so I used Topaz Simplify to process the image and added the BuzSim preset with some minor adjustments. I then processed the image further through Perfect B&W (which I’m really enjoying) to create this black and white version.

Icy Abstracts

A bit of a departure from what I’ve been posting lately but I thought I would mix things up a little. I was walking my dog on Saturday when I noticed some beautiful icicles forming on the tree outside my house. After we got in (and Brady got his treat) I grabbed my camera, put on my Tamron 90mm Macro lens and headed outdoors.

I processed the first image in Photoshop then ran it through Topaz Simplify to give it a bit more of a stylized look. You can download any of the Topaz plugins for a free trial and don’t forget to use the discount code ELPHOTO for a 15% savings.
